A few musings here...I have a feeling some people who left (just prior to all of this fiasco playing out) may have felt they wanted to continue their work from the other side. Some may have left feeling "No- enough of this place, it's just going to get worse, moving on now"...or perhaps felt they could connect with those who had followed their teachings who still were here- but from the other side. 2 of my favorite elder spiritual teachers died not of COVID- but before the massive explosion of the ordeal- before much was known by the truth seekers/real scientists with a conscience. I wouldn't doubt they'd be leading a brigade. Personally, I know my mother - who passed about 19 years ago, would have been so overwhelmed by all of this. Not sure if she would have taken the jab or not.
