Answer: Of course, after a huge wave of severe morbidity and death, the situation will calm down and the virus could even be eradicated for sufficient transmission. I don’t think this is the scenario you’re referring to. You probably refer to the evolutionary path of the virus abating rather than escalating. I don’t think we can fully rule out that possibility for the following reason:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if 'vaccine take' or the immunogenicity of the vaccines was generally poor, we wouldn't have seen the explosion of immune escape variants that we're seeing, because there wouldn't be enough 'immunised' people exerting suboptimal immune pressure on the virus. All the latest studies on immune escape variants I've seen also mention "reduced diversity of the neutralising antibody binding sites and increased proportions of non-neutralising antibody clones" due to "immune imprinting".

However there is something else that leads me to believe your Variant X will indeed find its way onto the scene. There certainly isn’t anything scientific about this theory but that’s ok it’s valid nonetheless albeit only from a philosophical POV.
Everyone remembers the stories we were told as children from books like The Bible, Aesop, Shakespearean, etc. Many of those stories had an unhappy ending for the characters or even civilizations that were guided by excessive hubris.
These immoral/unwise acts were on full display the last several years. Imagine the hubris it took to mandate pregnant women take these mRNA concoctions followed by children. If that is not an example of flying too close to the sun I don’t really know what would be.
