You say that that is not always the case and viruses can maintain high transmissibility and still become more virulent. It does seem that it would not be a big jump if a new variant remained highly transmissible like Omicron and yet was able to infect the lower respiratory tract like Delta.
So I guess one could say that the C-19 shots immunize you against achieving full immunity, but not against the virus itself.
