Dear friends and followers, I want to sincerely thank you for your warm words, support, and appreciation that I received following my recent announcemennt (“Like SARS-CoV-2, I'm ready for a major change…”).

In my opinion, we are now in the final stretch towards the end of this pandemic, which has been transformed into an immune escape pandemic due to human intervention (i.e., through stringent infection prevention measures followed by mass vaccination). What we are now witnessing is that the continuous breakthrough infections (VBTIs) in highly Covid-19 vaccinated populations are leading to a homogenization of the previously very heterogeneous immune landscape in these populations. The more homogeneous the (suboptimal!) immunity in the population, the higher the collective immune pressure on the virus. Once the continuously recurring VBTIs eventually balance out the different immune statuses in the population, the collective immune pressure on viral virulence will be high enough to trigger the predicted tsunami.
